“What Rules Did You Inherit?”
June 6, 2012Posted by on
We are all the results of the tribes that we were born into….
Our families, Our Ethnic Backgrounds, Our Religious Affiliations…And Yet…
When is the last time you’ve examined these beliefs/rules to determine if they fit into who you’ve become? Your values, lifestyle, your social and economic preferences?
As an example…a few weeks ago I was having lunch with a dear friend, we were talking about a ton of things all at one time, like only he and I can do… when he began to reminisce about the point in time that he decided to become a vegetarian, he was in his teens, had always eaten meat, coming from a traditional Italian family, he really never questioned it until he had this aha moment…
He loved animals and the planet!
He didn’t want to eat them, in that moment he became conscious of a belief that was not parallel with his actions…and in that moment swore off of meat. Now, years later is still a vegetarian and happy with that decision…
I challenge you today to take a look at the rules/beliefs that you are living by…most of which are on autopilot because you’ve always done them…or feel like you may disappoint someone if you change…there are a host of ideas that can inhibit change…Find one that doesn’t line up with who you are or where you’re headed and commit to make a change…drop it, replace it with one that you feel better reflects your current beliefs..
Doing this will lead you out of the boxes we permit ourselves to remain in, while all the long desiring change…Seeking our creativity and living a more creative life…one that we’ve designed, takes waking up to our selves…removing autopilot and putting our hands on the steering wheel to consciously take ourselves down life’s road…to a better self, a better community, a better world…
In the words of that musical genius and humanitarian, Micheal Jackson
I’m Starting With The Man In
I’m Asking Him To Change
And No Message Could Have
Been Any Clearer
If You Wanna Make The World
A Better Place
Take A Look At Yourself, And
Then Make A Change
As Always with Encouragement and Much Love
